How Bail Bonds Works
After the accused is arrested and charged, bail is set by the court the they’re left in jail until bail is paid or the date of the trial.
Bail is either paid in cash, in full to the court directly, or through a surety bond. With surety bond, a fee (usually 10% of set bail) is paid to a bail bond agent, who is insured to pay the full amount of bail should the accused skip their court date. In that case, a bounty hunter is typically hired.
Bail Bonds FAQ
At the very least you should tell us when the person was arrested, what they were arrested for, their name, booking number, and what bail was set at. If you’re missing any info, don’t worry. We’ll cross those bridges when we come to them.
What if the person I get out of jail skips their bail?
It’s bad for you. A bounty hunter will likely be called, and if the person isn’t recovered and brought to court within 75 days, you’ll be responsible for the full amount of bail. Only bail someone if you trust them to get to court when they’re supposed to.
Will my money be returned after the trial?
If you use a bail bonds service, the initial fee is usually non-refundable.
